The Full Story
As a professionally trained photographer with a BFA in Digital Imaging from the Art Institute of Charleston, I started my career as a wedding photographer. I always aimed to capture not just the subjects, but also the natural beauty of the earth that surrounded them. While I have been pleased with my professional work, I felt that it didn't quite reflect my inner experience of the world. This realization prompted me to embark on my own projects, which portray themes of pain, loss, and beauty. I believe that joy cannot exist without sorrow, nor can we appreciate beauty without acknowledging the existence of ugliness. Though my work may be perceived as dark by some, it is a reflection of my personal journey, and I am deeply proud of it. And just to clarify, despite the nature of my work, I am a very happy and cheerful person!
My mission as an artist is to create work that is a compilation of my thoughts and memories. I strive to create pieces that encourage others to connect with the hidden parts of themselves that we don't always bring to the surface. By bringing these parts to light, we can confront them and allow them to breathe, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. I believe that art has the power to facilitate this process, and I am dedicated to creating work that inspires others to explore their own inner landscapes.
My vision as an artist is to inspire a world where feelings are embraced, not feared. I believe that to feel deeply is to know that we have been impacted by something so great that it changes us, and that this process is essential to living a rich and meaningful life. Through my work, I aim to bring awareness to the power of emotions and to encourage others to explore and express their feelings without shame or hesitation. I feel honored to have lived through both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and I believe that my experiences have given me a unique perspective on the importance of feeling deeply. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire others to embrace their emotions and to recognize that the depth of our feelings is what gives life its meaning and beauty.
